CROWBAR Frontman: The New Record Will Smoke!

July 7, 2003

New Orleans sludge-meisters CROWBAR, the long-running band founded by DOWN guitarist Kirk Windstein, will enter the studio on July 28 to begin recording their seventh studio album, "You Don't Need An Enemy To Have A War", tentatively due at the end of the year through Spitfire Records.

"I know ya'll haven't heard anything about CROWBAR in a while, but all that's about to change," Windstein writes on the band's official web site.

"Since November of 2001, all my focus has been on DOWN, but now I have the chance to once again focus on CROWBAR.

"A lot of people have asked a lot of questions. Just to let ya'll know, Okie [bassist Jeff Okoneski] moved back to Michigan, [drummer] Tony [Costanza] moved back to Pennsylvania, and guitarist Sammy [Pierre Duet] is focusing on GOATWHORE. In April of 2003, [former CROWBAR and current BLACK LABEL SOCIETY drummer] Craig Nunenmacher called me and asked if I needed help writing the new CROWBAR. He said he'd be on a long break from [BLACK LABEL SOCIETY] and wanted to get back to the roots of what we've always done. About halfway through the writing process, [PANTERA/DOWN bassist] Rex Brown asked me who would be producing the record. I told him I had no fucking clue. He basically offered to produce it as well as play bass, and who the fuck could say no to that? So here we stand, July 5 with 11 new tracks, Craig on drums, Rex on bass, myself on guitar and vocals, and it looks as though were bringing in Warren Riker (producer of 'Down II') to turn the knobs for us and make this fucking thing slam. We're hitting the studio July 28 and hope to be done recording and mixing by August 22. What happens from there, I don't know, BUT you're gonna be damn sure this record's gonna fucking smoke."
